Materials Engineer

The Materials Engineer will be responsible for research, specification, design, and development of materials and processes to advance technologies in health care education simulators. He/she will develop new materials and products for anatomical and physiological simulation. In addition, the Materials Engineer will be responsible for documenting and implementing procedures required to manufacture, process, assemble, and test new products. He/she will liaise between various departments to deliver designs fit for manufacturing, while being able to troubleshoot problems that production technicians encounter.
  • Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop materials and products for replication of human anatomical features and pathologies.
  • Develop production methodology and tooling.
  • Design product and mold assemblies using CAD (SolidWorks, RapidForm)
  • Solve problems which may arise either during the manufacturing process or with the finished product.
  • Liaise with colleagues in manufacturing, engineering, technical support, and purchasing.
  • Test materials and products to assess shelf life, compatibility, durability, etc.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Train technicians.
  • Provide support to production lines.
  • Primary Responsibilities
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related.
  • Experience with polymer processing techniques a plus.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing techniques, including, but not limited to, injection molding, casting, compression molding, rotational molding, and machining.
  • Working knowledge of rapid prototyping methods.
  • Comfortable working within a laboratory and production environment.
  • Must have problem solving and analytical skills, and must be able to carry out duties with minimum supervision.
  • Familiarity with human anatomy, physiology, and pathologic conditions, a plus.
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • CAD Skills
  • Knowledge of 3D Scanning techniques a plus
